yuck

I forgot to mention this and I'm not sure if you've heard, but they will most likely be building a new Los Angeles Football stadium and bringing a team in for it. Where will it be you might be wondering? The hills directly above our apartments. The plans are in full swing and it's expected to begin it's development this year. It's rumored to be completed by 2011.

Scope the map out. it will be off of Grand avenue, directly built into the hills behind the old Honda dealership and Burger King off of the 60 freeway. The background in the drawing is the hills of Hacienda and outward stretching southeast LA as viewed from Grand Ave. The third picture is what I can make out from the video as it's precise location. Total bummer.

I am not happy about it. The 60/57 interchange is hell as it is, there will be fireworks and noise constantly coming from it and I'm pretty sure we'll see a huge increase in crime. I'll move if they bring the Raiders in.

The only good I can see from it is if I'm still here, it will pretty much secure serving jobs for me.

check out www.losangelesfootballstadium.com for more info and a video.

Ick. That is a total bummer. :( Maybe you could be a cop in that area? What does Dad think?

I'm kinda surprised it actually took this long for LA to get another football team. They used to have 2 (Rams AND Raiders). I agree that it would be a step backward if they do end up bringing the Raiders back though. And I think you're absolutely right that that interchange is already overloaded and will suck when you add the traffic rush from games and events at the stadium.

Keep your ears open for community planning meetings, or go to city hall for whatever city that is right there to find out when they are because they should have the opportunity for residents to express their concerns...unless that part of the process is already passed. From the looks of the design stage in the video, I'd say you still have a good chance of getting heard though.

The only good thing I can see, besides what you mentioned about job security, is that it looks like it will be a really nice facility.

Since Diamond Bar, Walnut and Industry are all unincorporated cities, it will really be up to the Sheriff's department on whether they transfer officers into each station. It's under Industry's jurisdiction but the corner of Walnut we live borders all three cities so I'm sure each department will have to beef up their staff. If it fell under it's own police department, like Chino PD or Covina Pd, with only a few hundred officers, I'm sure there would be a more noticeable push for hiring new recruits. But since its under LA county, it's just a marginal percentage.

Dad was shocked by it. As I was. A full blown football stadium behind our house? A football stadium in WALNUT? Nobody knows Walnut even exists.
